- Mineral Turpentine, also known as white spirit, is a versatile solvent widely used in the painting and decorating industry. Its primary uses are:
- Paint Thinning: Mineral Turpentine is commonly used to dilute oil-based paints, varnishes, and primers, making them easier to apply with a brush or roller and improving their flow and levelling properties.
- Cleaning: It’s highly effective for cleaning paintbrushes, rollers, and spray guns after using oil-based paints. It can also clean up paint spills and remove sticky residues from surfaces.
- Degreasing and Surface Prep: Mineral Turpentine is often used as a degreaser to clean surfaces before painting, helping to remove oils, grease, and other contaminants to ensure better paint adhesion.
- Household and DIY Use: Due to its ability to break down oil and grease, it is sometimes used in small quantities for household cleaning tasks, such as removing stains, adhesives, and tar spots from surfaces.
- Mineral Turpentine has a strong odour and should be used in well-ventilated areas with appropriate protective equipment.
